The Curator seeks to provide replicas of clothing seen in the archives but simply not made today. Through the 1940s and 50s this type of sweater was standard wear for the motorcycle club and sports rider for summer wear in the US. If you buy an original (which can cost up to $3,000) or look hard at the archival images you can find anywhere, you will see these are made from a fine knitted wool and are very tight. In fact they have a lot in common with the woolen cycling jerseys of the time. Our Club Sweater is therefore not an exact replica as it is a ‘slim fit’ but not actually ‘tight’ to the body like the originals. Also, we have used ultra soft, not itch, merino wool which is different from the harsh and itchy wool used back in the day. This is a sweater you really can wear year round as a fashion item, that no-one else has, or wear on your motor bike for genuine warmth under a leather jacket.
